Boating on the Grevelingenmeer

August 29, 2021

We had the best trip to close out August- a whole morning boating on the Grevelingenmeer. This giant lake is almost sea-like in appearance (and with plenty of waves on a breezy day), so makes for a great place to explore by boat. There are cute islands in the middle, where you can moor and wander, there are seals to spot, and cormorants to watch as they dive for fish. We saw some, silvery and small, darting under the boat, and even some jelly fish!

After almost running aground (the water is deceptively shallow in places), we finally found an old jetty to tie up at, and watch the chaos of other boats charging through the lock. A few hours later we returned to shore, windswept and sunburnt, a morning very well-spent.

The details- We rented a boat from Aquavitesse. They can be rented for the morning, afternoon, or full-day. They also rent out sailing boats, kayaks, and paddle boards, so there really is something for every water lover. Make sure to consult the map, as some places are very shallow, and always stick between the buoys!
